Thomas E. Burkhouse of Napanoch, NY, peacefully passed away on March 15, 2013 at the Ellenville Regional Hospital. He was 93 years old. Thomas was born on April 24, 1919 in Emerickville, PA; he was the son of Samuel and Ruth (Rhodes) Burkhouse.
On May 13, 1937 Tom married the former Dorothy DeLappa in Cumberland, MD. Together they were charter members of the Ellenville First Aid and Rescue Squad.
Mr. Burkhouse served in the United States Army during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and earned several medals including a purple heart and a service medal with 2 bronze stars.
He retired from the NYS Correctional Facility in Napanoch after 29 years of dedicated service.
Tom was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Napanoch. He was a standing member of the American Legion Post 0111, the Free and Accepted Masons, Wawarsing Lodge 0582, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of the Valley of Albany and a past member of the Napanoch Fire Department.
Tom’s favorite past time was fishing. He loved spending his summers on Seneca Lake and going for rides in the car with his wife, exploring new fishing holes.
In addition to his wife Dorothy of Napanoch, Tom is survived by their children Rayna Burkhouse of Ellenville, Thomas E. Burkhouse, Jr. and his wife Donna of Malta, NY and Linda Pittelli and her husband Robert of Mesquite NV, his sister Grace Burkhouse Gilligan of Brookville. PA, his sister-in-law Frances DeLappa of Elmira, NY, 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, March 19th from 4-7pm at Loucks Funeral Home, 79 North Main Street,Ellenville, NY with a celebration of his life beginning at 7pm. Burial of his ashes will be held on Saturday 10am atFantinekill Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to Tom’s name to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Napanoch, NY or the Ellenville First Aid and Rescue Squad.
