Roland was 78 years old and a resident of Napanoch for 45 years. He worked as a free-lance commercial artist in Manhattan, escaping to the Catskill Mountains at every opportunity. His love of art and nature combined perfectly in his mountain top residence, where he lived a solitary but rich life. His neighbors were his friends that knew each other for over 60 years. Roland possessed a very singular but infectious sense of humor. Although a confirmed bachelor, he loved to entertain children with campfire stories at the seemingly endless parties on “the mountain.” He was loved and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
He is survived by a brother, William of Alpharetta, Georgia and his son and daughter. Also two sons of his sister Marie, who predeceased him.
