Raymond C. Hornbeck of Grahamsville, NY died on December 5, 2014 at his home. He was 92 years old. Raymond was born on August 31, 1922 in Lackawack and grew up in Eureka; he was the son of Ralph and Doris (Furman) Hornbeck.
Raymond served his country in the United States Army during WWII and served as military police in Japan when the war was ended.
He retired from the Town of Neversink as Superintendent of Highways after working his way up over the years. Raymond always took great pride in his work; it was difficult not to notice his selflessness as he served the people of the Town of Neversink for over 30 years. He was a member of the Grahamsville-Sundown United Methodist Church and a Charter Member of the Grahamsville Volunteer Fire Company.
As accomplished as he is Raymond was always a farmer at heart. He loved to hunt, especially coon hunting, he loved to fish, travel and take long hikes with his family. And he took great joy in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Raymond is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Elise. Their children; Elyse Philippe and her husband Dom, Adam Hornbeck and his wife Melanie, and Keil Hornbeck and his wife Narda. Grandchildren; Joel Hornbeck, Rachel Stowell and her husband Greg, Phillip, Isabelle and Chloe Rose, Emily Hornbeck, Austin, Kyle and Kaitlyn Polomcean. Great grandchildren; Evelyn and Eleanor Stowell. His Sisters; Vira Slater and Betty Shaver and many nieces and nephews. Raymond was predeceased by his sister Dorothy Botsford and his nieces Dona Valetta and Theresa Horvath.
The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, December 7th from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Loucks Funeral Home, 79 North Main Street, Ellenville. A celebration of his life will begin Monday at 10am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Grahamsville Rural Cemetery.
