Phyllis Burhans Roberts

Phyllis Burhans Roberts aka (Bors-koefoed) of Stuart, Fl (formerly of Kerhonkson and Ellenville, N.Y.), passed away in Port St. Lucie, FL on Thursday June 8, 2023. She was 99 years old. Born on February 15, 1924 in Newburgh, NY; she was the daughter of George A. Tompkins and May Burhans Tompkins.

Following her High School graduation, Phyllis attended Harkwick College, Brooklyn Hospital Hospital School of Nursing and Sampson Naval Hospital, US Cadet Nurse Corp. Besides her formal nurses training she obtained her certification as a School Nurse Teacher from Russell Sage College. She went on to work as the school nurse for Rondout Valley High School until her retirement in 1987. Phyllis married Hubert Roberts 1989, sadly he passed away in 2008.

In her earlier years Phyllis was an active member of the USO, NAACP and during the summer months hosted Fresh Air Children. She belonged to several Health and Educational organizations including American School Health, Ulster County School Nurses Teacher Organizations, NYS and Rondout Valley Teachers Associations. She enjoyed golf and won a Women’s golf Championship in 1966 held at The Shawangunk Country Club. Phyllis hosted many dinner parties in her Kerhonkson home and was known for her delicious Hors d’oeuvres. Phyllis donated to many charitable organizations.

She is survived by her children; Eric Bors-Koefoed (Nancy Schmid), Dane Paul Bors-Koefoed (Kim), Kenneth Roberts (Bernice) and Karen Coddington (Jim); Grandchildren, Jonathan (Lindsay) and Michael Bors-Koefoed, Erin O’Brian (Sean), Paul Bors-Koefoed (Timmery), Jeremy (Nikki) and Travis (Joanna) Roberts, Stephanie Stade, Michael (Christine) and Brian (Kyla) Glass and ​18 great grandchildren. 

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 19^th from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Loucks Funeral Home in Ellenville, N.Y. A graveside service will take place at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 20^th at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh.
