Phyllis Ann Lennert, 92, a lifelong resident of Ellenville, NY, passed away peacefully on January 24th, 2025. Phyllis will be remembered for her active support of local initiatives that brought people together and improved the quality of the local community.
Her passions were focused on conservation and protection of our wild lands and natural resources, animal rights and the village that was her home. She spearheaded one of the first paper drives that took place in Ellenville and educated people about the importance of recycling. Phyllis actively served on committees for the “Run Like the Wind” road race and the preservation of the Hunt Memorial Building. Additionally, she was a member of the NY/NJ Trail Conference where she maintained a section of the Long Path Trail which extends from High Point NJ to John Boyd Thatcher Park in the Capital Region of New York. Phyllis enjoyed gardening, cats and a good country song she could line dance to. She was also a gifted artist and photographer in her own right. She took great pleasure in being out in nature and physical activity. Phyllis was an avid runner, hiker and skier, but will probably be most remembered as a dyed in the wool equestrian (all her children learned at a very young age how to pick out hooves and muck stalls!).
Phyllis was a mother and best friend to her children. She actively encouraged and supported all their interests. The legacy she leaves is filled with fond memories of family, adventure and out right shenanigans.
Phyllis is survived by her children Dorian Lennert (William Miller), Susan Kingsley (Lorne) and Dean Lennert (Nancy); her grandchildren Arielle, Ethan, Alexa, Forrest, Haliey, Peregrine and Jenna; great grandchildren Grayson, Evangeline, Jacklyn, Parker, Landon, Ellawyn, Aliyah and Blakely; her sisters Betty Jane Smith, Donna Rae Burkhouse and sister-in-law Marlene Moran.
She was predeceased by her husband Johnny, daughter Tina and granddaughter Ashton.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Ellenville Regional Hospital and the Care Center at Sunset Lake who cared for our mother with kindness and compassion for which we will be forever grateful.
A special thank you to Margaret, her care giver and companion, words can not express our gratitude for all you did for Mom.
