Peter Laurence Berger of Ellenville, NY, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024, at the age of 71, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 15, 1953, in Ellenville, he was the son of the late Louis and Sally (Berkowitz) Berger.
Peter was a proud graduate of Ellenville High School, class of 1971. He furthered his education by earning a Master's in Education from the University of Illinois, followed by a Juris Doctor degree from Indiana University.
His professional career began at Berger and Friedman in 1984 where he worked with his father. In 2005 he moved across the street to form Collier and Berger with his good friend and classmate where he worked diligently until his retirement in 2015.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Marla Frailey-Berger, whom he married on August 15, 1978, in Champaign, IL. He is also survived by his son, Daniel James Berger, and his wife Christine and Peter’s expected grandson; and his favorite daughter, Anne Alisha Berger. Peter leaves behind his siblings, Bonnie Rothenberg and her husband Jimmy, Robert Berger and his wife Karen, and Jonathan Berger, along with his adored nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Joshua Berger.
Peter was actively engaged in his community, serving as a Board Member for the Ellenville Central Schools and Ulster Community College, as well as Hudson Valley Hospice and the Ellenville Public Library. He worked with advocacy for ARC and Special Olympics. Additionally, he held the position of Vice President in the early years of the Shadowland Theatre.
In his leisure time, Peter enjoyed various hobbies such as golfing, fishing, birding, his weekly poker group, and driving around to explore nature and the beautiful countryside.
Peter will be remembered for his dedication to family, community, and the enriching pursuits that fulfilled his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shadowland Stages, the Ellenville Hospital, Feeding America or a charity of your choice.
As per Peter's wishes, services will be held privately with family and friends.
