Noreen Dechon of Ellenville, NY passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 4, 2021. She was 69 years old. Noreen was born on June 10, 1952 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Robert T. and Theresa (Harvey) Toomey.
Noreen worked for the Village of Ellenville as an Assistant Village Clerk before joining the Ellenville Central School District as the Secretary for the Superintendent and the High School Principal until 2007. She was asked to take on the position of Ellenville Village Clerk until her retirement in 2020. Shortly thereafter she was asked to assume the position of Acting Village Manager. The betterment of the people and the Village of Ellenville were always a priority of Noreen's service.
Noreen was a communicant of St. Mary and St. Andrew’s Church and helped with their many fundraising activities. She was an active member of the Noonday Club, serving on many volunteer committees, especially the Annual Senior Citizens Dinner. Noreen spent many years raising funds to fight breast cancer by participating in several Avon Walk for a Cure events in New York City.
With her ability to connect with people, Noreen made everyone feel special. As a wife, mom, grandmother and sister, she created a tight-knit family, keeping everyone connected. Every holiday, major or minor, was celebrated fully with special food and decorations. Her joy in the holidays was infectious. She was kind, personable, friendly and always with a smile (once she got her Diet Coke). Her passing leaves a void that not only ripples throughout the community but also within her close-knit family and her circle of friends.
In addition to her parents, Noreen was predeceased by her brothers, Timothy and John Toomey and her brother-in-law, Michael L. Dechon.
Surviving are her loving husband of more than forty six years, the Honorable Charles J. Dechon; their children, Colleen Dechon, Patrick Dechon and his wife Adrienne, Michael Dechon and his wife Breana and Stephen Dechon; siblings, Carol Rivano, Marie Laffan (Michael), Ann DiBello (Richard) and Robert Toomey; grandchildren, Riley Dechon, Emma Dechon, Sullivan Dechon, Kai Kumagai and Keira Dechon; sisters-in-law, Rose Toomey, Patricia Dechon, Eileen Dechon (Karen) and Kathleen Connallon (John); brothers-in-law, James Dechon (Rosa) and Daniel Dechon (Monica), as well as many nieces and nephews.
