Marie J. Van Dunk

Marie J. Van Dunk of Napanoch, NY passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 88 years old. Marie was born on August 8, 1930 in Ringwood, NJ; she was born to Harriet Van Dunk, and raised by Edward and Myrtle Morgan.

She was married to the late Herman Burgess Van Dunk. Marie was lovingly known to most as Ma, Nana, or Aunt Re. She truly was the matriarch of a huge family that included not only her 91 direct descendants, but countless distant relatives and family friends. After Marie finished raising her own 12 children she continued on with her motherly duties raising several grandchildren. Although she was a tiny woman of only 4’11”, she was always full of humor, and never was one to shy away from telling it like it was.     

Survivors include her children, Herman Burgess Van Dunk, Phillip Van Dunk, Marie Haughenberry, Dionne Nieves, April May Cintron, June Raja, Yvonne Sims and Jerry Van Dunk; 29 grandchildren, Jhonna, Sherri-Leigh, Herman Burgess, Tammy, Phillip Jr., Ivy, Shannon, Anthony, Gideon, Roman, Keziah, Corrine, Tyrone, Season, Taurus, Dante, Natasha, Shannae, Seeina, Anthony, Reza, Renato, Sarah, Luis, Tiana, David, Breona, Brett and Trevonne; 43 great grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Marie was predeceased by her daughters, Betty Ann Dubroff, Diane Van Dunk, and Yasmin Van Dunk; her sons, Adam Van Dunk and Anthony Van Dunk; her grandsons, Shane, Zachary and Anthony Van Dunk; great granddaughter Alanna Van Dunk; her partner Hugh DeGroat; her identical twin Lorraine Milligan as well as all of her siblings.

Visiting will be held on Sunday, January 13th from 2:00 to 4:00pm with a celebration of her life beginning at 3:00 pm at Loucks Funeral Home. Cremation will be private.
