June Everen Riddel Clark, age 93, of Port Charlotte, FL and Ellenville, NY died peacefully on May 14, 2014. June was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a wonderful example of a woman who loved sharing her gifts of life with her family and friends. She took great pride in her family and their accomplishments. She was an avid sports fan who loved to watch basketball and baseball. She was very proud of her UCONN Huskies men and women winning the National Basketball Championships this year. She was a Red Sox and a Yankees fan but rooted for the Yankees when they played each other. June was born on June 29, 1920, in Williamstown, VT to Elsie (Pirie) Riddel and Alexander G. Riddel. She was the eldest child with 3 sisters and 2 brothers. In 1942 she graduated from the University of Vermont with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. While attending UVM she became a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. On July 1, 1942 June married Thomas H. Clark. They shared 64 years of marriage and experienced much joy and pleasure with their family, friends and many others whose lives she touched. During World War II, when Tom was in the Sea Bees, June worked as a bank teller in Barre, Vermont. For many years Tom and June made their home in the Town of Newburgh, NY. June spent 19 years teaching 2nd Grade at the Middlehope School in Marlboro, NY. In 1967 Tom and June purchased a ‘Camp’ near Ellenville, NY which became their summer home. June’s children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many other friends and family have fond memories of summers at Camp with Grammie Clark. June was active in the Cape Pond Women’s Club and the Shawangunk Garden Club. She helped organize many Cape Pond picnics and served as North Shore water commissioner for many years. In 1980 Tom and June retired to Port Charlotte Florida. June enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Port Charlotte Garden Club for many years. The Clarks were members of the Punta Gorda Elks lodge 2606 and the North Port Yacht Club. June loved living on the water in Florida and New York. She really enjoyed her crossword puzzles and beating her daughters at ‘36’. June is survived by, her daughters Karyl (Douglas) Doscher of North Carolina and Janis (Joseph) McCullough of North Carolina; her granddaughter Lisa (Peter) Turgeon of Connecticut; her grandsons John McGeehan of South Carolina and Jeremy McCullough of Colorado; her great granddaughter Alexandra Turgeon; her great grandson Thomas Turgeon; her sister Beverly Tanguay; her brother Douglas Riddle and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her wonderful husband Tom; and her siblings Elsie Fitts; Daisy Carpenter and Alan Riddel. Visitation at the Loucks Funeral Home 79 North Main Street, Ellenville, NY on Monday, May 19, 2014 from 10:00 am – 12:00pm. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 12:00pm with Rev. Bob Kersten officiating. Interment will be at Fantinekill Cemetery, Route 209, Wawarsing, NY.
