Judy Kay Garlinghouse, a beloved resident of Napanoch, NY, peacefully passed away in her sleep on Monday, January 22, 2024. She was 84 years old. Judy was born on April 16, 1939 in Kingston, NY, to her loving parents Miles and Leila (Simpson) Furman.
On February 2, 1963, Judy embarked on a beautiful journey with her beloved husband Ira Garlinghouse by her side. Though he has since predeceased her, their love and partnership will forever be cherished.
Judy dedicated herself to serving others as the Tax Collector for the Town of Wawarsing for an impressive span of 30 years before retiring. Her commitment to community and diligent work ethic made her an invaluable asset to those she served.
Not only did Judy illuminate the lives of others through her professional pursuits, but she was also an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion. Her involvement in these organizations showcased her unwavering dedication to making a positive impact in the lives of those around her.
Deeply devoted to her faith, Judy found solace and strength as a faithful member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. Her presence within the church community was characterized by kindness, compassion, and unwavering support.
In moments of leisure, Judy enjoyed various pastimes. Whether it be crocheting intricate pieces, diving into captivating books, engaging in friendly card games, indulging in game shows or trying her luck at the casinos—these activities brought joy and relaxation into her life.
Judy leaves behind a legacy that is carried forward through her children: David Garlinghouse, Michael Garlinghouse and his wife Sue, and Melissa Costello. Additionally survived by cherished grandchildren Zachary Costello (Alex), Brandon Costello (Kayla), and Justin Garlinghouse—her love and influence will forever shine through them.
Visitation to honor and celebrate Judy’s life will take place from 4:00 to 6:00pm on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Loucks Funeral Home in Ellenville. Following the visitation, a meaningful celebration of her life will commence.
Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Judy’s name to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 35 Church St., Napanoch, NY 12458
