John A. Unverzagt

John A. Unverzagt a lifelong resident of Ellenville, NY passed away on June 3, 2012 at his home with his family by his side. He was 68 years old. John was born on August 16, 1943 in Ellenville, NY; he was the son of the late Albert and Rose (Tiano) Unverzagt.

Mr. Unverzagt was the local Barber in town and had owned Ed and Al’s Barber Shop on Canal St. He was very community oriented and for many years was the Town Historian for Wawarsing as well as a member of the Elks Lodge. John was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary and St. Andrew’s Church. He was a true outdoorsman; John enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Ulster Heights Rod and Gun Club. He was a loving father, husband and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

John is survived by his children; John Unverzagt and his wife Jennifer of Ulster Heights and Nicole Unverzagt and her husband Alan Siegel of NYC, his brother Albert Unverzagt of Hurley, his grandchildren Zachary and Sarah Siegel and John and Mia Unverzagt and his cousins Josephine Marl, Catherine and Edward Unverzagt.

John was predeceased by his wife Barbara this past August and his sister Maryann VanVleet. 

Visiting will be held on Thursday, June 7th from 7-9 PM at Loucks Funeral Home, 79 N. Main St., Ellenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10am at St. Mary and St. Andrews Church. Cremation will be private.

 In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in John’s name to Hospice of Ulster County, 34 Broadway, Kingston, NY 12401.
