John Stone

John Stone of Newburgh, NY and formerly of Ellenville, NY passed away in the comfort of his home with his wife and children by his side. He was 79 years old. John was born on November 9, 1943 at the family home in Apex, NC. He was one of 10 children and was raised as a share cropper by his parents Hummie Stone and Annie Lee Mayo Stone.

John had worked at Ellenville Hospital as a Janitor and the Cedar Program in Ellenville cleaning the roads. This is where he met his wife Susan Van Etten Stone. They married on December 31, 1983 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ellenville. More recently John had worked as a Machine Operator for VAW. He retired in 1998 after 11 years of perfect attendance. 

John was a quiet, hardworking loving husband, father, sibling and uncle who will be very much missed.

In addition to his wife Susan, John is survived by his children, Roland Kenneth Van Etten and Sally Stone; his grandchildren, Triniti Van Etten and Jordyn Van Etten; his siblings, Lois Demear, Linda Harris and Arnest Stone as well as several nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by his son, Shawn Stone and his siblings, Mae Cross, Annie Cross, Louise Reid, Willie Jefferson, Mary Moss, Shirley Patterson and Ernest Stone. 

As per John’s wishes there will be no services.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in John’s name to the American Diabetes Association.
