OBITUARY

A Life Lived………… Horace Thurman

Horace Thurman, of Ellenville, New York, USA and formally of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away at his home, on Saturday, August 5, 2023. From this life he entered into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Horace was born November 24, 1953, in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the son to Herbert and Pecolla Thurman.

While growing up in Cleveland, Horace attended the Cleveland public school and upon graduating high school he soon joined the United States Marine Corp. He served during the Vietnam conflict.

Upon returning from serving in the Marines, Horace returned to his home in Cleveland. While in Cleveland, Horace met and married Georgina Thurman and was a stepfather to Shanie. He was employed with several companies in Cleveland, including Euclid Electronics, where he remained until he moved to New York State. Horace lived in Brooklyn, New York for a few years before relocating to Ellenville, New York.

Horace was a member of Olivet Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio and when he relocated to Ellenville, New York, he became and was a faithful and loyal disciple of New Testament Church of Jesus Christ. He would often time tell his story of when he became a disciple of the ministry in 1990 and how he would walk by the church at different times and hearing the singing and music playing he would say, "I'm coming to that church one day." And he has been with the ministry until his death.

While attending New Testament Church of Jesus Christ, Horace served on the Praise Team, he transported members to and from church services and anyone else that needed transportation. He served as a groundskeeper and custodial services and was always willing to help others in any way he could. He was certainly a valuable asset to the ministry and will be greatly missed.

Horace is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Linda and Catherine, his brother Gregory, and his nieces Saundra and Renay.

Horace leaves behind to cherish his memory his brother, Herbert Thurman III, and his sisters Maxine Smith and Brinda Thurman, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Horace will be forever missed

A memorial service for Mr. Thurman will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 14, 2023 at the New Testament Church of Jesus Christ, 39 Clinton Ave., Ellenville.
