Herman S. Crawley was born on November 13, 1930, and slipped into eternal life on December 3, 2024, at Fishkill Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Beacon, NY. Herman was born in South Boston, VA to the late Irby Crawley and Bertha Oliver Crawley. He received his education in the Halifax County School System.

Herman was a longtime resident of Ellenville, NY. He served in the United States Army as a Military Policeman. Herman was married to the love of his life Vernell Crawley in 1958, who superceded him in death. To this union was born a son Michael Crawley, who also superceded him in death.

Herman worked at Schrade Knife Factory for thirty plus years and retired from there in 2006. Herman was a dedicated member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a Trustee, Chairman of the Deacon of Board, as a Kitchen Worker in the Soup Kitchen and as Pastor’s Guard. In his downtime, he enjoyed gardening, growing beautiful flowers, and sitting on his front porch.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Crawley, and two brothers Sherman and Arnold Crawley.

He leaves to mourn a loving family, William Crawley (Arlene) of Newport News, VA, Marie Thomas of South Boston, VA, Fannie Dunaway of Philadelphia, PA, Diane Russell (William) of Philadelphia, PA, sister-in-law Claudette Crawley of Cleveland, OH, a devoted nephew, Kevin Thomas, and a niece Rhonda Williams. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Visiting will be held at the Shiloh Baptist Church, 60 Berme Rd., Ellenville on Saturday, December 14th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A celebration of his life with military honors will immediately follow.

A Light at the End of the Tunnel

There’s a light at the end of the tunnel,

There’s love that’s waiting for me there;

All cares and troubles I will leave behind,

 As I climb the golden stair.

There’s a light at the end of the tunnel,

There to meet my Lord face-to-face,

 And I’ll be in the home that I longed for,

Saved by His heavenly grace.
