Charlene Constant of Greenfield Park, NY passed away in the comfort of her home on Saturday, December 30, 2017. She was 67 years old. Charlene was born on January 6, 1950 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Ellenville. She was the daughter of the late Charles Benson and Mabel (Conner) Skeens.
Charlene married Richard Constant on July 25, 1970 at St. John Memorial Episcopal Church. They moved to Virginia for a short two years and while there Charlene attended beauty school and began her career as a cosmetologist. Charlene was very supportive of her husband while he was in the service always making sure his uniforms were in perfect order. She and Richard returned to New York and eventually settled in Greenfield Park. Charlene maintained her cosmetology license and she and her mom managed the Beauty Shop at the Granite Hotel for a few years. She then went to work at the Ellenville Regional Hospital as the Unit Secretary and remained there for 26 years until her retirement in 2012.
Charlene served as President of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #111 from 1999-2005. Charlene loved to travel. She and Richard visited all but 11 of the states. Charlene was devoted to her family and was an amazing cook. Her family loved her cooking so much they named her kitchen Charlene’s squat and gobble.
Charlene held onto her faith and belief in Jesus Christ even through the difficult times. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her husband Richard, Charlene is survived by her brother, Frank “Skip” Skeens and wife Nancy; her sisters, Darlene Wade and husband Robert and Linda Davis and husband Barry; brothers-in-law, Russell Constant and wife Lilly, Jeffrey Constant and wife Penny and Gary Constant and companion Janet DeChick; nephews and nieces, Maria Messina and partner Rick Cross and their son Ricky, Shannon Skeens, Chris Wade, Jacklyn Day, Heather Eddings, Jason Constant, Rachel Vaughn, Christopher Constant and Jesse Wall, nine great nephews and great nieces and her beloved cat Coalie.
Visitation will be on held on Friday, January 5th from 4 to 8 pm at Loucks Funeral Home, 79 North Main St., Ellenville NY. A celebration of her life is scheduled for Saturday, January 6th at 11 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fantinekill Cemetery.
