Carol J. Gilleran, 66, a long-time resident of Las Vegas, went to Heaven peacefully May 22, 2014. Previously, she was a certified court reporter and homemaker. Upon retirement, Carol and her husband, Jim, relocated from Mission Viejo, Calif. to Las Vegas. Carol was a beautiful, loving mother, grandmother and friend. Traveling quite a bit, she delighted in telling stories of those travels with her husband, of 33 years, Jim. Her favorite country to visit was Africa, and she often spoke of returning. She appreciated reading and history, traveling around the world, and around the country in the family motor home. A great lover of music, Carol loved to sing, play piano and to dance. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, discussing religion and debating politics. Even though Carol teased that she had no talent for it, she took great pride in her roses and cactus blooms. Carol believed it was important to respect and honor our military and the animals that could not defend themselves. Most of all, Carol loved her family, her friends, and her dogs. Carol could frequently be heard bragging about her grandchildren and was so proud of all of them. At the slightest prompt, she would whip out pictures of her beloved Shih-Tzus from her wallet to share with others. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Leona; her beloved husband, James G. Gilleran; and son, Jed. Carol is survived by her children, Gina Purdue (Doug), Georgieann Bougher (Dennis), James G. III, William, Laurie, Christine, and Kerry; grandchildren, Amanda, Reno, Gigi, Cassie, Cliff, Keyan and David James; plus, her three adored Shih-Tzus. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, October 16th at Fantinekill Cemetery, Ellenville, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, with gratitude, to Wounded Warrior Project, Opportunity Village, or Best Friends Animal Society, Kanab, Utah.
