Berdella A. Smith, "Honey"

Berdella A. Smith, "Honey" of Grahamsville, NY, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021. She was 92 years old. Berdella was born on April 6, 1929 in Middleburgh, NY; she was the daughter of Daniel and Beatrice (Edwards) VanDyke.


Berdella graduated from Middleburgh Central School and furthered her education at Ulster County Community College where she earned an Associate’s Degree in Science. She was a civilian employee for the Department of Corrections and retired after 30 years of service from the Eastern Correctional Facility. Following her retirement, she went onto work for the Town of Wawarsing where she was the secretary to the Supervisor where she remained for 18 years. Berdella was a friend to everyone she met, kind, and fun loving. She will be deeply missed.


In addition to her parents, Berdella was predeceased by her brother, Lawrence VanDyke.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Fredenburgh; her granddaughter, Kimberly Costa and her husband Fernando, their children, Colby, Jordan and Craig; granddaughter, Stacey Fredenburgh and her children, Virginia and Terri; grandson, Ronald Fredenburgh and his daughter, Shyanne; grandson, Daniel Fredenburgh and his daughter Adina; nephew, Bruce; nieces, Nancy, Beth, Sue, Debbie, Diane and Denise. Also surviving are many dear friends that Berdella held close to her heart.

A luncheon will be held from 12:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday, November 21st at Unity Hall, Napanoch

Memorial contributions may be made in Berdella’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
