Arthur Dean Van Etten of Wawarsing passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Kingston City Hospital with his family by his side. He was 90. He was the son of the late Clifford and Esther Clum Van Etten, born on November 9, 1921 in Saugerties, NY.
He was a proud graduate of Saugerties High School and later served our county as a second Mate in the Merchant Marines who was involved in the mission P.Q. 17 Convoy during World War II which was to supply the American Troops near Russia. For many years he worked as a Forman at New York Telephone and was a member of the NY Telephone Pioneers. He was also a long time member of Ellenville Reformed Church, and enjoyed photography and was an avid golfer. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather that will be missed deeply.
He is survived by his children, Anne Hartwell of Poughkeepsie, Dean Van Etten and his wife, Betty of Napanoch, daughter-in-law, Jeanne Van Etten of Saugerties; seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his loving wife whom he married on December 19, 1943, Catherine Van Etten; one son, Jonathan Van Etten; two brothers, Earl and Clifford "Kip" Van Etten.
There will be a memorial service for Arthur on Thursday, May 3 at the Ellenville Reformed Church, 188 Canal St., Ellenville, NY 12428 at 11 a.m. Rev. Jay Vogelaar will officiate.
