Andrew W. Helgesen

Andrew W. Helgesen of Ellenville, NY passed away on Monday, September 7, 2015 at Ellenville Regional Hospital. He was 83 years old.

          He was born on November 28, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY; he was the son of the late Andrew R. and Elsa Helgesen. 

          Andrew attended and graduated from Liberty High School, class of 1949. He later graduated from Long Island Agricultural & Technical Institute in 1951 studying Agricultural Engineering. Andrew proudly served our country in the US Army from 1951-1954 as a Sgt. in the Signal Corps. After his service he returned to Ellenville and was employed by New York Telephone and retired after 34 years. He also served in numerous civic and community organization in many capacities.  He was a tireless worker and put his heart and soul in every undertaking he took. He will be greatly missed by all that knew.

          He was survived by his wife of 48 years Rita Slutsky Helgesen at home, his son, Eric Helgesen and his wife Melissa, and one grandson Matthew of Ellenville.

          Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 7-9:00pm at Loucks Funeral Home, 79 North Main Street, Ellenville, NY 12428. Interment will be done at the convenience of the family.

          In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Andrew’s name to the Ellenville First Aid and Rescue Squad, 1 Webster Street, Ellenville, NY 12428.
